Securing a Military-Grade Collaboration Platform
for
Aerospace and Department of Defense Partnerships
When
BAE Systems, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon,
and Rolls-Royce decided to found an online system
for sharing aerospace and defense-industry information
and collaboratingon projects, they needed a platform
that provided both security and flexibility. Theresult
is Exostar`s ForumPass, a membership-based network
linking manufacturers, suppliers,
and customers.
ForumPass
incorporates a comprehensive set of online groupware
solutions that allow members to work together
in real time and exchange information selectively
and safely.ForumPass includes PTC`s Windchill
ProjectLink, a tool that allows ForumPass members
to work in common virtual workspaces, no matter
where they may be located geographically.
ForumPass
also includes Webex functionality, for Web conferencing
and online meetings. ForumPass provides other
standard groupware features as well, such as meeting-planning
tools and version control.
Because
ForumPass members require military grade security,
Exostar couldn`t afford to cut corners. ForumPass
systems are housed in a commercial data center
that`s built according to the specifications of
Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF)
standards set bythe Department of Defense (DOD)
and the National Security Agency (NSA). The founding
partners of Exostar had jointly developed security
requirements for ForumPass that were never before
real
"When
our aerospace and defense customers approached
us to create a collaboration environment with
military-grade application security, the partner
of choice to develop identification and certification
component was simple, VeriSign," said Ludo
Van Vooren, vice president of marketing and business
development at Exostar. "Today, our partnership
is currently being used at over 60 customer sites
on programs ranging from weapons systems to77
commercial airplanes."
